Dumb Cane

Dieffenbachia

Dumb Cane is also commonly known as Mother-In-Law Tongue, referring to it’s toxic sap which inflames the tongue and throat when ingested. They prefer morning sun or bright indirect sunlight and thrive in moist, well-draining soil. Water when the soil is dry when the soil is dry at least ½” deep. They are susceptible to root rot, so be careful not to over-water. Fertilize once per month during spring and summer with a thin layer of compost or a diluted low-potency chemical fertilizer. Regular misting is recommended to prevent pest infestation and keep the edges of the leaves from browning.
