Polka Dot Plant

Hypoestes phyllostachya

Originally from Madagascar, Polka Dot Plants prefer morning sun or bright indirect sunlight and thrive in moist, well-draining soil. They are known for dramatically wilting when they need water. Water when the soil is dry when the soil is dry at least ½” deep, or when the plant is wilted. Lower lighting conditions will cause their brilliant colours to show but will make them “leggy” as they search for sunlight. You can create a fuller plant by cutting back the taller growth, which will allow the plant to fill out. Fertilize once per month during spring and summer with a diluted low-potency chemical fertilizer. Regular misting is recommended to prevent pest infestation and keep the edges of the leaves from browning.
