CompareDirect sow seeds outdoors in spring when temperatures stay above 10C. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing seeds 4 inches apart. Seeds can also be started indoors 2-3 weeks before planting outside. Thin or transplant seedlings when they are 3 inches tall to 12 inch spacing. Sunflowers grow best when watered regularly throughout the season.
