A medium sized, colourful accent tree with deep purple foliage from late spring onward. Leaves are ornamentally significant and turn to a brighter red-purple in fall. Has very attractive white flowers in mid spring, followed by tart chokecherries in fall. The fruit is excellent for making jams and jellies and wine-making. Tends to sucker, and can be susceptible to black knot. More or less rounded form.
