Start early indoors 8 weeks before last frost OR outdoors in spring as soon as soil can be worked in fertile, well-drained soil. Sow groups of 3 or 4 seeds spaced 12 inches apart. Press seeds into soil but barley cover. Keep evenly moist but not soggy. When seedlings emerge, thin to the strongest single plant in each group. In cold winter areas, mulch plants in late fall for overwintering.
